I am currently working on the third installment of the Bright Report anthology series. Things are shaping up nicely. In fact, at this rate, I have enough planned out for Volume 3 to 5! Once the ink dries on the fifth collection, I’ll release an omnibus of everything published up until that point (including Awkward Phrasing) – plus, illustrations! This will only be in print (paperback and hardcover) as I don’t see much point in rereleasing a collection for those who buy the stories piecemeal as an eBook.
Back to Volume 3. I am planning a May 2022 release – if everything goes to plan (on that note: remember to subscribe to the blog’s email list!). I am hoping for a chunkier publication this time – slightly longer stories.
Part Stories
The feedback I received from Volume 2 is that the “to be continued” stories may alienate those who don’t read the books chronologically. I guess that this is a fair comment considering it is an anthology of short stories and not an installment in a series. I was attempting to emulate the serial stories of Dickensian times. No middle ground, I guess.
I’ll try to cut down on this, but Carmichael’s tale of the Cloud Islands will still follow this formula. His story will come to an end in Volume 4.
Of course, all these stories will be fully combined in the Omnibus version.
More Stories
Volume 1 contained six stories and Volume 2 contained five. Six seemed like a better amount to me (let me know what you think in the comments). Volume 3 will contain seven stories and slightly more substantial content in the “Extras” section. Will this make it too long? Only time will tell. I’m still learning and one day I’ll get the balance right.
In this Bright Report we will have the following “genres”:
- Crime
- Travel
- Antiques
- Art
- Education
- Sport
- Technology
As you can see, a few of them make a return. Some of the “voices” have really come to life for me – if that makes sense. Therefore, I’ll deploy these intrepid reporters where I can.

I’ll just keep writing. Watch this space for more on the Bright Report and my many other projects. I am in the process of figuring out how to turn my work into audiobooks (exciting and scary).
